Facts & Figures

Following the illegal termination of our rent contract early in 2010 we were faced with closing or finding new premises. With a generous gift from a retired teacher we were able to purchase our own ground. Building classrooms, toilets, cookhouse and office in blocks has been made possible through gifts by many supporters. Also a well has been dug.
The construction of library, craft/art/sewing rooms, horticultural classroom and garden was completed in 2011. A small boarding unit for non-parental children, a mini farmstead (chickens), the development of the play area, a dining hall and staff houses followed in 2012.
Early in 2014 our newly built High School will provide quality education for the first 35 students.

Our school is located on the outskirts of Mtomondoni, in the north western part of Mtwapa. Mwtapa is densely populated and a breeding place for crime, prostitution and drug trafficking.
However, as soon as you leave the narrow pathways of Mtomondoni and travel through a tropical landscape towards our school, you seem to be in a different world, an oasis of peace and fresh air.

Here our children can learn in this natural environment. There are currently some 430 children from poor backgrounds in 12 classes.
They are supplied with two meals a day and get support until late. The afternoons are filled with fun at the sports field, or with music, dancing, drama and horticulture.

Our General Manager, 17 teachers, an office worker, 3 cooks, a night watchman, a seamstress, a driver, a gardener and a dedicated group of parent representatives ensure the smooth running of the school.

Albstadt Nursery is financed by German sponsors, Helping Hands Primary School and Helping Hands High School, by various European donors, mainly from Austria. Swiss give a lot of support to both schools.

Goals and objectives

Our objective is to help poor children/families in Kenya, to realise their full potential in educational, recreational, cultural and spiritual learning.
